Gravesend Reformed Church
Advent Gravesend Church dates back to 1655 and is the fourth oldest church in Brooklyn. Dutch settlers founded a Reformed Church in the town of Gravesend, one of the six towns that made up what is now Brooklyn in the 17th century. The language of worship was Dutch until the first quarter of the 19th century. Many of Brooklyn's streets and Avenues are named after families who had been members of Gravesend Church, e.g., Stillwell Avenue, Emmons Avenue, Ryder Street, Lake Street, Van Siclan Street, and Cropsey Avenue Gravesend Church remained a center of the rural Gravesend town for over two centuries.

Advent Lutheran Church was organized in the season of Advent in the year 1908. The present building was begun in 1909 and the worship space used today was dedicated in 1929. Advent Lutheran and Gravesend Reformed Churches federated on January 8, 1979 to form Advent Gravesend Church. Services are held in the former Advent Lutheran Church.
