Shore Theatre - Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y. (Forgotten New York)
The 2387-seat Coney Island Theatre was designed by the architectural firm of Reilly & Hall. Real estate developers Irwin & Henry Chanin built the theatre, but it was sold to the Loew's chain before opening on June 27th, 1925. In the theatre's early years, the policy was to present vaudeville and show a feature movie. Due in part to its location, the theatre was never a big moneymaker, but the theatre's dazzling marquee and vertical sign kept the Loew's name in view of the millions who visited the resort annually.

Around 1964-65, the theatre was taken over by the Brandt Company, and the name was changed to the Shore Theatre. Attempts to appeal to the area's large Jewish community failed, despite presenting stage revues like "Bagels & Yox," failed, and the programming switched to exploitation movies and eventually porno.
