The Roman Catholic Church of the Incarnation has been called the St. Patrick's Cathedral of Washington Heights, as it is home to many Dominicans and other Latin Catholics in upper Manhattan. The parish was established in 1908, and construction began in 1928 on the present neo-Gothic building, which was designed by W. H. Jones. Built of stone with limestone trim, the exterior includes buttresses and a facade with two small towers. Inside, the lacy white marble baldacchino is surrounded by a soaring apse that is visually heightened by ribbed vaulting and tall stained glass windows. Side aisles with Stations of the Cross flank the nave, which reaches upward in several bays containing stained glass. At the West End is a large and stunning rose window above the gallery. Twin organ facades with gold pipes face into the gallery from both sides, and additional organ facades are found in the North transept and in the apse.
