The Anglo-Catholic Church of the Resurrection was founded in 1866 as a Free Episcopal Church (having no pew rentals), and was originally called the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The building was designed by James Renwick, Jr. of Renwick & Sands and was completed in 1869. Due to the church's location to the east of Park Avenue, it was known to the gentry as the "Servants' Church." In 1902, the name was changed to the Church of the Resurrection. Beginning in 1920, the church's adherence to Anglo-Catholic doctrine and style of worship have been a draw to many. The church is also home to Resurrection Episcopal Day School, a Montessori pre-school.

Electro-pneumatic action

A completely new organ was built by Charles W. McManis in 1962. David Hewlett, who was then organist and choirmaster, played the opening recital early in 1963.  Catharine Crozier was heard on the organ April 25, 1963. Over time, the organ became unreliable and its use was discontinued when the Ahlborn-Galanti instrument was installed in 2003.
